In 2018, Mercedes-AMG F1 secured its fifth consecutive Formula One Constructors' Championship title. Working alongside DK Motorsport, PGVM was entrusted with the collection and transportation of all five championship-winning Formula One cars—vehicles with an estimated combined value of over £50 million and, in many respects, truly priceless. Our task was to deliver each car safely to both Mercedes facilities for official championship team photo shoots.
The project presented a number of unique logistical challenges. With limited daylight during the winter months and a tightly scheduled programme, every stage of the operation had to be carefully planned and executed. The size of modern Formula One cars also meant that a conventional race trailer simply could not accommodate all five vehicles.
To overcome this, we utilised our purpose-built Rolfo Auriga Deluxe enclosed transporter, equipped with a race-style tail lift. This specialist equipment allowed each car to be loaded safely and efficiently using flat-floor access, eliminating unnecessary lifting angles and reducing the risk of damage. The trailer's innovative split-deck configuration enabled three cars to be secured on the upper deck, while the adjustable lower deck created the space required to transport the remaining two vehicles safely beneath.
With the right specialist equipment, meticulous planning, and extensive experience handling some of the world's most valuable competition cars, PGVM completed the operation seamlessly, ensuring both photo shoots were delivered on schedule and without incident.
